Guest Blog from Sally Brandle, author of Sapphire Promise

Please welcome author Sally Brandle to Carly's View. Sally's newest book, Sapphire Rose, is available now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Ibooks, and Google Books.

Sally's Blog Post:

December 7th marks the 80th Remembrance Day of Pearl Harbor. I didn’t realize the worldwide effects of the horrible day until thirty years ago when I met Iris, a Dutch-American, WWII survivor. Her privileged life as an eighteen-year-old was transformed by the bombing in both a wonderful and terrifying way. Sapphire Promise is an enhanced memoir which tells her historically accurate story of courage, and determination over a six-year time frame.

Iris and I met as hospitality volunteers at the Seattle Art Museum in the 1990s. During those shifts, I heard bits and pieces of her incredible younger years in Batavia, a Dutch East Indies colony (now Jakarta, Indonesia). She rode horseback through the jungle with her pet monkey! She’s pictured here a few years ago with my 31-year-old gelding-once a horse lover, always a horse lover.

About 90% of the events in Sapphire Promise are true. I fictionalized a few scenes (with Iris’s permission) for flow. Board members of The Indo Project (people of Indonesian/European descent) endorsed the portrayal of Iris’s colonial life prior to the Japanese invasion.

It amazes me each time I reread Iris’s story and realize how young and sheltered she was when these life-changing events transpired-and how tough it must have been for her to keep a positive attitude. She’ll turn 98 on December 8th and remains grateful and upbeat. To many engaging and uplifting women’s stories of the Greatest Generation were never written. Iris and I are proud of this book.

BIO of Sally Brandle:

Multiple-award winning author Sally Brandle weaves slow-burning romance into edgy suspense, motivating readers to trust their instincts. Growing up as a tomboy alongside helpful brothers prepared her to work in a male-centric industry and raise respectful sons. She takes pride in creating action-packed stories featuring strong women who find men deserving of their love. Her unintentional heroines conquer their vulnerabilities and partner with heroes to outwit cunning villains. Historical research and consultations with a variety of experts proved invaluable while she penned her fourth published novel, Sapphire Promise. Sally’s rescued Tuxedo cat, Shepherd dog, and Blue Heeler are her companions during long spells of writing or bouts of tormenting weeds in her garden. Afternoons she often spends riding on the wind with her thirty-one years young Quarter Horse.

  1. Thank you Carly for hosting me. My narrator, Justine Eyre, completed the audio files, so Sapphire Promise will soon hit the airwaves. She nailed the accents and I know it wasn't easy! Happy Holidays, Sally
