CJ: Thank you for joining me, Kyle. So where are you from?
KP: I was born and raised in Cornwall, nearby Padstow.
The Pennington family has had an estate there for centuries. It’s dear to my
heart.
CJ: That's pretty cool. What can you tell us about WAKING UP TO LOVE?
KP: It’s
about the rocky road Lyssa and I had on our way to the altar. Good Lord, we
couldn’t get out of our own way, and to make things worse, a chap named Rand
Cunningham set his sights on her. I’d never imagined I was capable of such
jealousy.
CJ: Inquiring minds want to know, Kyle, what did you think of Lyssa when you first met?
KP: She took my breath away
with her slender beauty. All those copper curls, those sapphire eyes, and her
laugh was like the morning chorus of songbirds after a long dark winter.
CJ: That's very romantic. What made you want to keep seeing her?
KP: We had such fun that first time. We met at a faculty
soirée where both of us taught, the University of Chicago London campus. I
hadn’t laughed like that in years. I asked if she’d fancy a walk in Hyde Park
the next day, thinking we’d enjoy the activity at Speakers Corner. We did, then
we walked over to the Round Pond and watched the kiddies sail their boats. We
talked about everything under the sun. I knew then I wanted to marry her and
have babies and live out our lives together. I didn’t dare tell her.
CJ: What do you think Lyssa likes most about you?
KP: I suppose it’s that we’re opposites. I’m a steady
fellow, logical in the extreme. I’m an encryption specialist, you know. And
Lyssa’s brilliant in her own field, of course, but light-hearted and fun. I expected
she’d be attracted to my money, but she’s more interested in walking the Coast
Path together than dining in style.
CJ: What made you choose computer security for a career?
KP: That actually came out of my experience in school as
a lad. I was a young genius, and my parents sent me off to learn with boys
twice my age. As you would imagine, I was bullied, and my way of besting the
bullies was to become indispensable to them, on my terms. Long story short, I
found ways to protect their files, their online communications, and everything
about their electronic paper trail. It grew into a business, Pennington Secure
Networks. Those old school chums, who became wealthy businessmen, are my
clients.
CJ: What is your biggest fear?
KP: Losing Lyssa, I suppose. The months we were apart
last year were dark and lonely, and I shouldn’t like to repeat that ever.
CJ: What would we find under your bed?
KP: I’ve no idea. I’ve never looked. What an odd
question.
CJ: Do you play any sports?
KP: I wasn’t much good at team sports. I prefer working
out in a well-equipped fitness center, and that’s what I do three or four times
a week, without fail.
CJ: What do you do to unwind and relax?
KP: Besides working out and walking, I play the piano.
Classical. I’m quite good. Lyssa loves listening, and I can always get her
relaxed with a Bach Invention or two.
CJ: Who should play you in a film?
KP: I know he’s not an actor, but I rather think Keir
Simmons, the news correspondent, is a dead ringer for me.
CJ: Tell us about your favorite restaurant.
KP: There’s a bistro on the Thames Lyssa and I like very
much, with a wall of windows looking out to the Houses of Parliament. Their
seafood is fresh and brilliantly prepared, and Lyssa says their burgers are the
finest in the UK. She should know, she’s tried them everywhere we’ve gone.
CJ: Thanks for letting us get to know you, Kyle. It's been a pleasure to have you on Carly's View.
KP: My pleasure of course.

BLURB FOR WAKING UP TO LOVE:
Kyle
Pennington broke Lyssa’s heart when he let her go, rather than interfere with her
budding career. An ocean away now, Lyssa has fallen under the spell of
golden-tongued Rand Cunningham who’s in a hurry to marry her. But Kyle is
miserable without her and is willing to risk everything to get her back. Will
Lyssa wake up in time to ask who she really loves?
EXCERPT FROM WAKING UP TO LOVE:
Lyssa
had sniffled all the way to the airport. As they’d pulled in to the curb, he’d
told her, stupidly, for perhaps the seventh time, “It’s your dream, luv. You
need to chase your dreams.” He’d hauled her bags out of the trunk and signaled
a porter to help. Then he’d pulled her close, so close he’d nearly lost
himself, nearly told her to stay and to marry him and have babies with him and
grow old together.
If she’d said yes, it would be
the end of her career. You knew that.
So,
instead, he’d backed away, straightened her pink paisley scarf, landed one
gentle kiss on her perfect pink lips, and said, “Safe flight, luv.” It was
absolutely the right thing for a thirty-six-year-old man to say to a vivacious
twenty-six-year-old just starting her career.
Well, wasn’t it?
Lyssa
apparently hadn’t agreed. She had searched his eyes with her intense blue gaze
until tears welled up and spilled over. “I think I’m in love with you, Kyle,”
she’d choked out.
Startled,
he’d lost his grip on her arms, stood open-mouthed with horror, and bloody let
her go. She’d fled into the terminal and been swallowed up by the throng of
departing passengers.
